IN LORENZO QUINN,S ARTWORK The invisible FORCES

It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye.” In The Little Prince, Antoine De Saint-Exupéry let us in on this secret, passed down from the greats. Even Michelangelo Buonarroti once said “I saw an angel in the marble and arved until I set him free” Part of this lineage, the artwork of Lorenzo Quinn shows us the invisible in the present day: everyday fears, ambitions, memories, and dreams.

The modern era has also given Quinn the chance to shape new alloys in defiance of the laws of physics. In his creations, enormous hands hold nude bodies poised in perfect physical and physical balance, between conscious thought and unconscious dreams. Other or reach out in a precarious balance, while others feature real vintage cars or life-size toy soldiers.

Quinn replaces the classic Atlas, sinewy and physically strained beneath the weight of the globe, with an elegant young woman. Instead of powerful limbs, she uses a swath of fabric to twirl the heavy earth, which appears much lighter around her centre of gravithy. Our anxietes are there, in that violent, stifling planet, which now, sustained by Mother Nature, seems lighter.

The invisible element contained in his artwork is the balance of weight and the forces at play. Gravity, centripetal and centrifugal acceleration are balanced by reason and grace. It is only with reason as our starting point that we can find the right new equilibrium and the force to do away with fear.
